Site Supervision & CM, QA/QC

Since the beginning of the firm's existence the Dr. Sauer Group has provided construction management and inspection services to complement the design and consulting work with experienced field supervision.  The company’s group of field engineers and inspectors has helped to complete many successful tunnel projects throughout the world.

Dr. Sauer Group’s services range from periodic site visits by experienced individuals to document a project’s progress to fully developed construction management services which deliver a complete project for the client.  The company also has great success with inspection teams, which take over quality assurance and quality control and support the client, the construction management or insurance companies.

Excavation at the Russia WharfThe New Austrian Tunneling Method is an observational method where support elements are determined based on the geology and the results from the geotechnical instrumentation program.  Therefore, the Dr. Sauer Group has geologists and monitoring engineers on staff, and offers their services either as individuals or in a construction management or inspection team. Waterproofing inspectors familiar with the installation of flexible membrane systems are an additional specialty of  the company. As part of the field work Dr. Sauer Group has supported contractors less experienced in tunneling work with personnel at the superintendent and foreman level and allowed these companies to win and successfully complete tunnel projects.  The Dr. Sauer Group’s inspection staff is drawn from a pool of individuals with practical experience gained during long-term work with tunneling contractors who adequately understand tunneling methods and construction staging, as well as the importance of reporting and site documentation.

Over the last 25 years, Dr. Sauer Group has provided construction management services for the client at the Schuerzebergtunnel in Oberrieden, Germany, and the Cameron Run Tunnels in Alexandria, Virginia.  The company was contracted for inspection services by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission at the Lehigh Tunnel No. 2 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Federal Highway Administration at the Cumberland Gap Tunnels in Cumberland, Tennessee, and the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority at the Russia Wharf Tunnel in Boston, Massachusetts, to name a few.  Monitoring engineers are at work for the Dr. Sauer Group in Santiago, Chile where large scale subway line extensions and the construction of new subway lines are underway.  Inspectors of the Dr. Sauer Group were also responsible for the successful installation of the flexible membrane waterproofing systems at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Mid City E-Route and F-Route and Outer B-Route.
