Job Description

As a full time employed Tunnel Engineer, you will be working on major projects both in the UK and overseas.  You will be an integral part of the design team and will be required to carry out a number of diverse engineering tasks. The principal duties are:

The Tunnel Engineer will be responsible for the timely production of key deliverables from designs, drawings and complex analyses under guidance from our senior team members. There will be involvement in the tendering process of future key design projects in the UK and overseas plus opportunities for site experience. The principal duties are:

  • Working to pre-set timeframes with supervision from various team members. 

  • Empirical tunnel design and settlement assessment analysis.

  • Carrying out Finite Element Analyses using commonly used software such as Phase 2 (2D) and Abaqus (3D). 

  • Carrying out soil and rock mechanics analysis and design.

  • Development of excavation and support sequences. 

  • Impact assessment on existing subsurface and surface structures. 

  • Supporting the Senior Engineers in managerial tasks such as resource schedules, design programme, staff planning, time sheet submissions and assurance processes.

  • Participating in and embracing Dr. Sauer & Partners quality and environmental management systems accredited to ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 as well as adhering to the relevant Design Management Plan.

 

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or similar.

  • Experience gained from multiple design projects.

  • Thorough working knowledge and excellent understanding of Civil & Geotechnical Engineering. 

  • Experience gained on projects of FE Analyses, calculation reports and production of design packages. 

  • Excellent English language, representation, organisation and communication skills.

  • A strong interest and passion in ground engineering and tunnelling is advantageous.
