Dr. G. Sauer & Partners is part of the West End Connectors design team to develop detail design for the excavation and support, waterproofing and final lining of nine SEM Cross Passages.
Description
The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) Advance Tunnel Project 1 is the first phase of work for the 9.2 kilometre extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (future TTC Line 5). The extension will run mostly underground, westward from Mount Dennis Station to Renforth Drive. The Advance Tunnel 1 contract consist of the design and construction of approximately 6km of twin single track TBM tunnels with pre cast tunnel lining (PCTL), a launch and a main shaft, eight headwalls for future stations and nine SEM Cross Passages (CPs) with Sheet membrane waterproofing and CIP final lining concrete.
Geology
The geology ranges from made ground top layer to glacial deposits of sands, silts, clays and their mixtures to the underlying Georgian Bay Shale, a jointed soft rock with locked in horizontal stresses and a potential for swelling.
