The ITA-AITES World Tunnel Congress 2023 will take place over the coming days in Athens. Running from 12-18th May the theme for this year’s event is ‘Expanding Underground’. More than 2,000 professionals from the world of tunnelling are expected to attend the event which will be held in the MEGARON conference centre. The congress and programme of events will focus on the knowledge and passion that the industry offers in making a positive impact on the world.
The main congress activities will begin on Monday 15th May with the scientific program and technical exhibition and this year, Dr. Sauer & Partners has various members of the team present to deliver papers, posters and discussions based on recent project experience.
On Monday 15th May, MD of our Tel Aviv office, Petr Salak will chair a session at 2pm that will discuss Geological, Geotechnical Site Investigation and Ground Characterisation. On Wednesday 17th May he will then present in the morning (9.10am) alongside Dr. Sauer & Partners’ Or Nathan “A Pragmatic Rock Support Approach - as used in the French Hill Road Tunnels project in Jerusalem". Petr will then join the ITACUS Special Session: The Way Forward to discuss collaboration and knowledge building.
Later on the Wednesday (11.20am), Head of Geotechnics, Dr. Angelos Gakis will share our work on the Highway 401 project, focussing on the low cover tunnelling solution as developed and constructed under North America’s busiest highway.
Our final representation will come from Zhen Ng who will share a poster on Wednesday afternoon at 2pm using our work on the Bank Station Capacity Upgrade project as a case study of Hybrid SCL and Handmined Shaft.
