This week, Dr. Sauer & Partners' MD in Israel, Petr Salak, is in Hong Kong, joined by Arthur Nixon, Engineer from the London office, where they are attending the Young Professionals' Think Deep Programme (YPTDP). Petr is the lead for the YPTDP and will present to the Geotechnical Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) as part of the Technical Seminar programme entitled "Building Resilient Cities: Underground Urbanism for Sustainable Development". Specifically, in his presentation, Petr considers "Advancing Urban Underground Planning through Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration".
The Young Planning Professionals Programme ‘Hong Kong Rocks - Deep Planning for Strategic Cavern Development’, is a crucial component of ISOCARP’s dedication to promote and enhance the planning profession and commitment to facilitate knowledge for better cities with the young generations. Along with ITACUS’ commitment, the programme facilitates a unique creative spirit within the society, and it has become a source of new ideas, innovation and rejuvenation not only for the society but also for its partners. The workshop brings together young professionals from around the world to explore innovative uses of underground spaces, a vital approach for high-density cities like Hong Kong. With strategic cavern development at the core, the forum will discuss solutions for sustainable urban expansion in a compact city.
The event is intended as a continuation of previously organised workshops in 2016, 2017 and 2023, which focused on the Glasgow Waterfront, Wroclaw West End and Gdansk’s Polish Hook Areas respectively.
We look forward to hearing all about the contents and learning of this week long programme when Petr and Arthur return.
