The British Construction Industry Awards took place on 10th October 2018 at the Grovesnor House Hotel in London to recognise the most prestigious projects and solutions delivered within the built environment sector. Dr. Sauer & Partners’ made the shortlist for the Temporary Works Initiative (Civil Engineering) Award, acknowledged for its temporary works solution on the Bank Station Capacity Upgrade Project Northern line Adit Construction.
The temporary works solution delivered by Dr. Sauer & Partners employs an SCL lining in a situation where timber squareworks would traditionally have been used. The solution paves the way for a fully mechanised excavation and support in and around existing LU assets, virtually eliminating many risks associated with the traditional hand mining method, ultimately improving the safety for the workforce during execution. The judges were impressed by this example of amending existing practice of hand mining with the use of automated and more mechanised SCL and changing the attitude of the industry and client to its use. The judges felt this was up with the best because it was leaving a legacy of change within the industry.
