Gerald Skalla presents at TAC Conference 2023, Toronto

Tuesday, September 19th, 2023

Between September 24-26th the Tunnelling Association of Canada's annual conference will take place at Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. On Tuesday, Sept 26 at 8.50am, Partner and MD in Canada, Gerald Skalla will present his paper 'Large Caverns in Sand'.

Gerald will present a case study on the design and construction of large caverns in urban areas with a particular focus on sandy ground conditions. North American projects will be showcased with up to 19m wide caverns and shallow overburden to street level. Particular challenges and solutions will be illustrated including dewatering, pre-support, face stability, and over-excavation from initial concept through to construction completion. The successful implementation of toolbox items, such as driven pointed rebar spiles and pocket excavation, will also be discussed.

As we have done previously, we will have a booth (no. 16) in the exhibition hall at the event, so please do stop by and say hello!

The theme for this year's event: Smart Solutions - Future Growth, will be prevalent throughout the conference in plenary presentations, technical sessions, networking, and a trade exhibition to showcase tunnelling and trenchless technology throughout Canada and around the world.
