TAC Project of the Year 2020 - Eglinton LRT's Mined Stations: Laird, Avenue and Oakwood

Monday, November 9th, 2020

At the virtual Tunnelling Association of Canada’s AGM that was held last week, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT mined stations of Laird, Avenue and Oakwood were crowned winners of the Canadian Project of the Year Award 2020 (Over $100M CAD). We are delighted to have won this accolade for the work on the project along with all our project colleagues.

Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS), (a joint venture comprising Dragados Aecon, EllisDon, and SNC Lavalin), appointed Dr. Sauer & Partners for the SEM elements of the project to provide the solution for Metrolinx, the owner.

Dr. Sauer & Partners provided design services from tender support through to detailed design for all three stations. Significantly, the size of the caverns at Laird Station (19m by 15m height, with a length of 490m,) and the station platform and double track cross-over meant for an innovative and bespoke solution.  Oakwood had a 10m overburden and Avenue challenging ground conditions.

Managing Director in Canada for Dr. Sauer & Partners, Gerald Skalla commented: “We are delighted that the project, the three stations and the engineering effort involved have been recognised by the TAC and have received this accolade. Many congratulations to all those involved!”
