Update from Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel contract.

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025

Dr. G. Sauer & Partners is proud to be one of the structural designers of temporary works for Ontario Transit Group (OTG) and the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel contract. While we’re widely known for our tunneling expertise, among other temporary works tasks our structural engineering team plays a critical role in supporting complex underground infrastructure projects.

Together with OTG we are well on our way to pouring the crane foundation of a massive MLT 1109 tower crane foundation. This 40-ton (80,000 lbs) crane with an 80 m (260 ft) boom will travel along 75 m (250 ft) of rail track, enabling construction of the station structure at Exhibition in Toronto.

Our engineers are focused on delivering safe, innovative, and efficient temporary works solutions that keep projects moving—safely and on schedule.

This tower crane will be supported on steel rail tracks that are embedded in reinforced concrete beams founded on deep steel piles socketed in bedrock. An additional concrete slab provides a clean flat working surface for unloading, material storage, and hoisting operations. You can see the ongoing rebar installation progress in the attached photos—another step forward in delivering this vital transit infrastructure.
