Dr. Sauer & Partners were finalists in the Design Innovator category. This category recognises companies that are raising the bar in design, bringing the most innovative technical and technology-led solutions to the market while being mindful of the need for good governance and technical surety.
Our presentation within this category highlighted the innovation we demonstrated on the Bank Station Capacity Upgrade Project in relation to safety improvements, environmental benefits as well as cost and programme efficiencies. In particular, the design of combined linings which avoided unnecessarily thick tunnel linings; the design of Option A Joints which helped eliminate personnel in the SCL exclusion zone as well as the innovative design of pile interceptions which allowed tunnelling through 'active' support piles to high value buildings.
We also showcased design innovations from our Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit project in Canada where we introduced the use of FRC in large SCL tunnels. As well as the use of a Cross Cut tunnel to build huge SCL caverns on the Chinatown Station project in San Francisco.
