For their first social event of the year, the British Tunnelling Society Young Members (BTSYM) visited the Transport for London Museum Depot. Situated in Acton, the Depot houses over 320,000 items of all types, including the Museum’s celebrated poster collection, vehicles, signs, models, photographs, engineering drawings and uniforms. Dr. Sauer & Partners was delighted to be able to sponsor the event.
The BTSYM group was able to enjoy an out-of-hours tour by the museum’s amazing volunteers. Due to the background of the group, they predominantly focused on tunnelling and the underground, leaving the group fascinated with their insider knowledge and historic facts - the volunteers pride themselves in providing an unbiased outlook and providing all aspects of the story. The stories told by the volunteers delivered many lessons learned which the BTYSM members would then be able to potentially apply to ongoing infrastructure projects. Dr. Sauer & Partners' Avantika Raj (who is leading the Social Media and Communications sub committee of the BTYSM) commented "Seeing 12 feet cast iron rings was just the cherry on top!"
After the visit, attendees were able to head for drinks where they were able to network, socialise and discuss their visit to the museum.
